Principal Consultant — Turnstone Ltd. | Ardmore, PA
Thomas J. Galia is an independent healthcare data consultant and the principal of Turnstone Ltd., a specialized consultancy serving life sciences, academic health systems, and federal health agencies. He brings more than 15 years of hands-on experience translating fragmented clinical and administrative data ecosystems into standardized, analytics-ready platforms that drive real-world evidence generation and research.
Tom's technical depth centers on health data standards and large-scale data engineering. He has led more than 25 OMOP Common Data Model conversion projects—drawing on EHR records, insurance claims, clinical trial data, and specialty databases. His command of OMOP vocabulary infrastructure (concept, concept_relationship, concept ancestor tables), OHDSI tooling (Atlas, Achilles, Web API), HL7/FHIR standards, and medical coding systems (ICD, SNOMED CT, RxNorm, LOINC, CPT) enables him to design solutions that bridge the gap between raw clinical data and research-grade datasets.
Tom's federal and academic health credentials include strategic consulting for the Defense Health Agency's OMOP implementation—delivered through SpinSys—as well as advisory work supporting the University of Pennsylvania's integration of Epic data into the OMOP CDM. These engagements encompassed data mapping strategy, validation framework design, and stakeholder alignment across large, multi-institutional programs. His prior work as a Business Intelligence Manager at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania adds direct insight into hospital operations data and health system governance.
On the life sciences and RWE side, Tom served for six years at IQVIA as a senior consultant and product owner leading pharma-facing data conversion programs and enterprise reporting platforms. Most recently at Veradigm, he managed engineering teams building cloud-native health data products on Azure, including Value Set Manager—a clinical informatics tool for standardized value set development across therapeutic areas, directly parallel to the work Turnstone now offers to clients.
Turnstone Ltd. is currently developing Meridian, a clinical value set builder purpose-built for pharma RWE teams. Meridian sits atop a curated OMOP vocabulary database and provides guided, domain-aware concept search, value set construction, and structured export—eliminating the manual, error-prone workflows that slow study startup. The platform is designed for organizations that operate outside the OMOP CDM but need OMOP-aligned value sets for EHR-based research.
Tom holds an Executive MBA from Drexel University's LeBow College of Business and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Delaware. He operates at the intersection of clinical informatics, data engineering, and program leadership—equally at home in a technical architecture conversation and in a stakeholder alignment session.
